Kerala Schools save Rs. 300 Cr with the Introduction of Free and Open Software
The State of Kerala has introduced free and open source software(FOSS) in its schools. This move has helped them save Rs. 300 cr.
From 2003 onwards, IT became a compulsory subject in Kerala but in 2005, FOSS was introduced in a phased way and started replacing proprietary software.
This initiative was taken by the curriculum committee to use this in the higher secondary level which has been completed below.
Executive Director IT @ school, K. Anwar Sadath said that this will make the classroom jobs easy such as chapter transaction including teacher’s training, video tutorials and many more.
