Peoples President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Passed Away


SHILLONG: India’s 11th president Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam passed away on Monday after collapsing during a lecture at the IIM in Shillong. He was wheeled to Bethany hospital in critical condition and was confirmed dead after more than two hours. The report confirms that Dr kalam suffered massive cardiac arrest.

"President Kalam was brought to the hospital at 7 pm. When he brought in there was no sign of life. He was taken to ICU to try and revive him, which was futile," hospital sources told.

Dr APJ Abdul Kalam considered as the most popular president occupied the post between 2002 and 2007. He was completely devoid of any political background. As a mark of respect to him, the government declared a seven-day national mourning.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday evening said, "My mind is filled with so many memories, so many interactions with him. Always marvelled at his intellect, learnt so much from him."

"Deeply saddened at the sudden demise of the former president of India Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. He was an inspiration to an entire generation." tweeted Home Minister Rajnath Singh.

Dr Kalam known as the missile man of India is one among the most eminent scientists in India. He has received honorary doctorates from 30 universities and institutions.

“He has been awarded the coveted civilian awards – Padma Bhushan (1981) and Padma Vibhushan (1990) and the highest civilian award Bharat Ratna (1997). He is a recipient of several other awards and Fellow of many professional institutions,” an official bio said.

Dr Kalam has been guiding the Indian Space Research Organisation’s satellite launch programme and the country’s guided missile programme for many years.  He always inspired young people through his lectures and public interactions.
