School students can continue free travel in KSRTC

 

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala State Road Transport Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan confirmed that students till higher secondary level can continue to travel free in KSRTC buses.

KSRTC MD recently reported that students will not be allowed free travel in KSRTC buses.  Diesel price hike and financial crisis resulted in the decision. He stated that concession cards and discounted ticket rates will be issued to students from Wednesday.

When the diesel price slashed last February to Rs51, the government decided to allow free travel for students in KSRTC. After the hike in diesel prices, KSRTC had to spend Rs 36 lakh extra for the service.

KSRTC depots across the state were given instructions to distribute concession cards from Wednesday. Now it has been cancelled as the Road Transport Minister announced free travel for students.

KSRTC employees with salary due were disappointed with the decision of providing free travel service to students.
