13-Year-Old School Girl Tops at Google Science Fair
Lalita Prasida Sripada, a 13-year-old Odisha school girl has won the Community Impact Award at the Google Science Fair 2015.
She is a Class IX student at Delhi Public School, Damanjodi.
“My inspiration is Dr MS Swaminathan, the father of the Green Revolution in India”, She said.
Her project is an inexpensive bio-absorbent based water purifier functions mainly on waste corn cobs. It can immobilize contaminants in industrial and domestic effluents as well as in ponds, water tanks and reservoirs.
It is an inexpensive and eco-friendly way of purifying water and will begin a new market for corn cobs which are thrown out as waste.
"I am really excited to have won the Google Community Impact Award both for my school and for my country as this will boost my insights and give me an opportunity to work further for solving local problems." Lalita Said.
She won in the age group of 13-15 years, and received 10,000 USD.
Moreover, she will also be supported for a year by the organization to develop her project.
