Crossing the River of Misery: Parents Risk Life to Get Their Children Educated

 

Dropping their wards every day to school is a life threatening task for the parents in the tribal majority village, Jadugoda in Naxal-hit Potka Block in the East Singhbum District of Jharkhand. Inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ slogan; parents swims across the River Sankh, carrying their children in a big handi.

The poor villagers have to risk their life and their childrens' so that they could reach a nearby school. The village remains shockingly underdeveloped with the lack of roads, bridges, transportation means, or any other basic amenities. The residents face disregard towards their plea for development from the state government, as the place had been notorious for Naxal activities. Parents demanded that Prime Minister Modi should address their request for the construction of a new bridge over the river, so that they could provide their children better education.
