Surat Smart City Pilot Projects to Launch by Diwali

The Smart City Mission in the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) will lauch several pilot projects including automatic fare collection system, intelligent transit management system, city surveillance traffic management system, and fibre to home services by Diwali. The service implementation will start from a single zone and gradually spread to cover the entire city.

"Automatic fare collection system would be introduced for Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) on canal corridor to begin with. Once the tickets are validated, the passengers would be let into the bus," SMC city engineer Jatin Shah said.

The municipal commissioner, Milind Torwane, opined that the pace of all works being done for the Smart City Project should be quickened. He also said that the coming months would see a lot of smart and citizen-centric services being provided to the people.

Other than the aforementioned ones, SMC has also got plans to roll out various other services such as  spot penalties, EMI collections and supply of S-Connect cards.
