Union Minister Prakash Javadekar met with Linkedin CEO Jeff Weiner last Tuesday to discuss current issues affecting the education sector in India. The meeting was opined to be a successful one by Mr. Javadekar and it had obliged with the views of the HRD ministry. The ministry had been showing interest in utilising the reach of social media in the education sector recently in order to boost innovation and placements.
"We had very fruitful discussion and we are sure there are many things which we can do jointly and we are interested in increasing research and innovation and relevant teaching and placements thereafter to happen in all college campuses and all our technical institutes. . . We have more than 10,000 engineering colleges, therefore we have discussed many things and our AICTE and our department ministry will definitely work with good ideas," Javadekar said.
Weiner said that Linkedin had plans for making products in and for India. In fact, Linkedin had already launched a Lite version of its website in India for mobile browsing earlier this week.
