Satellite to be Named In Memory Of APJ Abdul Kalam [UN Kalam GlobalSat]

As a tribute to the late “Missile Man of India”, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, CANEUS, (CANada-Europe-US-Asia) headquartered in Montreal, Canada has decided to rename the satellite GlobalSat for DRR (a satellite for observation of Earth and Disaster Risk Reduction) to UN Kalam GlobalSat

The decision was taken by Milind Pimprikar, Chairman of CANEUS. According to him, renaming the satellite is a tribute to the great man who made notable contributions to the fields of science and space explorations.  He further stated that this would also signify the World Space Vision-2050, which aims to find solutions for a number of issues faced by mankind including natural disasters, energy, health-care, education, water and weather related problems.

An initiative helmed by United Nations, ‘GlobalSat for DRR’ will be adopted by more than 150 nations at the UN session in New York in September this year.
